Donor bone vs. your own bone: which works better for jaw repair?
NCT ID NCT07104370
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two methods of rebuilding the jawbone for people who need dental implants but have lost bone after tooth loss. One method uses a piece of the patient's own bone, while the other uses donated, freeze-dried bone. The goal is to see if the donated bone works just as well, with less pain and shorter surgery. Thirty adults who need jaw reconstruction will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
freeze-dried bone allograft block
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that freeze-dried bone allografts work as well as the patient's own bone for jaw reconstruction, reducing pain and surgery time.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 people. Allografts lack living cells, so they may not integrate as well as the patient's own bone.
