Blood boost for ICU survivors: can transfusions speed recovery from debilitating fatigue?

NCT ID NCT04591574

Summary

This UK trial is testing whether giving blood transfusions to intensive care unit (ICU) survivors with low red blood cell counts (anemia) helps them recover their strength and quality of life faster. It compares the current standard approach of giving fewer transfusions to a more active plan that corrects anemia before patients leave the hospital. The study involves 346 patients and measures their physical function, fatigue levels, and overall well-being for up to six months.
