Blood test could steer cancer treatment to right drug

NCT ID NCT06314997

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase II trial tests whether a blood test that looks for genetic changes in circulating tumor cells can help doctors choose the right targeted therapy for colorectal cancer. 150 participants will either get treatment guided by the blood test or standard care. The goal is to see if the blood test approach improves response rates at 12 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

panitumumab (EGFR inhibitor)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could help doctors choose more effective treatments for colorectal cancer by using a simple blood test.

What could go wrong

This is a phase II trial with only 150 participants, so results are preliminary. The blood test may not reliably predict which treatment works best.
