New blood markers could reveal hidden cancer after surgery

NCT ID NCT06929013

First seen Feb 15, 2026 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study is looking at new blood tests to see if they can detect tiny bits of cancer left behind after surgery for colorectal cancer that has spread to the abdomen (peritoneal metastases). Currently, doctors rely on a visual check during surgery, but this may miss small amounts of disease. The study will track specific markers in the blood before and after surgery in 58 adults to understand how these markers change and if they can reliably show whether all cancer was removed.
