Gentle exercise with cuffs may boost muscle in MS patients
NCT ID NCT07645937
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding blood flow restriction cuffs to light leg exercises can help people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis build bigger, stronger thigh muscles. Thirty participants will do the same exercise twice a week for 8 weeks, but some will have the cuffs tightened to partially block blood flow, some will have sham cuffs, and some will exercise without cuffs. The main goal is to see if the cuffed group gains more muscle thickness and function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Blood flow restriction training device
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a safer, gentler way for people with MS to build muscle and improve mobility without heavy weights.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants. The results may not apply to all MS patients, and the benefits might be no better than standard exercise.
