Summary
This study aims to find new blood-based markers that can predict or diagnose infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) in people with severe pancreatitis. About 20% of acute pancreatitis cases develop tissue death (necrosis), and when that tissue gets infected, the risk of death rises to 40%. Current methods often fail to distinguish infected from sterile necrosis early enough. Researchers will analyze blood samples from 45 adults with necrotizing pancreatitis to identify immune and metabolic signals that could lead to faster, more accurate diagnosis.

Who is studied
Adult (\>18 years) patients with a diagnosis of NP based on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) after 2 weeks from AP onset at the University of Minnesota will be included. The study does not restrict enrollment based on sex, gender, race, ethnicity, or other demographic factors. Non-demographic factors such as social determinants of health, socioeconomic status, and comorbidities will be considered in the study analysis.
