Pirate-Themed therapy goes hybrid: can home sessions help kids with cerebral palsy?
NCT ID NCT06507631
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a 'blended care pirate group' for children aged 2.5 to 8 with unilateral cerebral palsy. The program combines on-site therapy sessions with home-based training, where children wear a sling on their less-affected arm and do play-like activities to improve use of their affected arm. Researchers measured how many training hours parents completed at home and interviewed families and therapists about their experiences. The goal was to see if this hybrid approach is feasible and effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Blended care pirate group (behavioral intervention: sling-constrained movement therapy with play-like activities)
What this could lead to
If successful, this blended approach could offer a more flexible, effective therapy option for children with unilateral cerebral palsy, combining clinic and home sessions.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility study with only 17 participants and no control group, so results may not apply broadly. Home training adherence and parent burden are key unknowns.
