Brain wave monitor may spot dialysis danger early

NCT ID NCT03276273

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a device called the Bispectral Index (BIS), which measures brain activity, can detect dialysis disequilibrium syndrome (DDS) — a condition that can cause confusion and other symptoms during first-time dialysis. Researchers will monitor 20 patients starting dialysis for the first time and track changes in their BIS readings. The goal is to see if this tool can identify DDS earlier than current methods.
