Blood test may slash unnecessary antibiotic use in ICUs

NCT ID NCT07481773

First seen Apr 12, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study is testing whether a special blood test (biomarker signature) can help doctors in intensive care units (ICUs) make better decisions about when to use antibiotics. About 1,200 ICU patients who have started antibiotics will be randomly assigned to have their treatment guided by this test or by usual care. The goal is to see if the test can reduce antibiotic use while keeping patients safe and improving their recovery.
