New biomarker strategy aims to prevent failed breathing tube removals in ICU
NCT ID NCT05637099
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether repeated measurements of certain biomarkers during a spontaneous breathing trial can help predict which ICU patients will need to be re-intubated within 7 days. Researchers will follow 266 adults who have been on a ventilator for more than 48 hours and are ready to try breathing on their own. The goal is to improve decision-making and reduce complications from failed extubation.
