NCT ID NCT04635228
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested a special graft made from pig tissue to close holes in the eardrum. Researchers followed 87 patients for 3 months after the graft was placed to see how many had complete healing. The goal was to find out if this material works well for repairing eardrum perforations.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Biodesign Otologic Repair Graft (a porcine-derived material used as a patch for the eardrum)
What this could lead to
If successful, this graft could offer a reliable way to repair eardrum perforations, potentially improving hearing and reducing ear infections.
What could go wrong
This is a small, post-market study with no comparison group, so results may not apply to everyone. The graft is made from pig tissue, which could cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
