New filling material could help teeth heal themselves
NCT ID NCT06348953
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested two types of fillings for deep cavities in back teeth: a new bioactive material and a standard non-bioactive one. Fifty adults aged 18-40 with deep cavities were treated using a technique that removes only the decayed part. The researchers checked tooth sensitivity, vitality, and filling condition over 18 months to see which material worked better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bioactive dental restorative resin based system
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better filling material that helps teeth heal and stay healthy longer after deep cavity treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The materials may not show a clear advantage over standard fillings.
