Could a common gut molecule calm a painful surgical complication?

NCT ID NCT03724175

Summary

This study aimed to see if a medication called ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) could help control inflammation and improve quality of life for people with a condition called pouchitis. Pouchitis is a painful inflammation that can occur in patients who have had surgery for ulcerative colitis. The trial was designed for a small group of patients whose pouchitis did not respond well to antibiotics, but it was terminated early after enrolling only two people.
