Could stimulating both sides of the spine improve bladder control?

NCT ID NCT07505940

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether stimulating nerves on both sides of the lower spine works better than just one side for people with neurogenic bladder—a condition where nerve damage causes bladder control problems. Twenty-nine adults with incomplete spinal nerve injuries will be randomly assigned to try both methods in different orders. The goal is to see if bilateral stimulation reduces incontinence and improves bladder function more effectively.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
sacral nerve stimulation device
What this could lead to
If bilateral stimulation works better, it could offer a more effective way to manage bladder symptoms in people with nerve damage.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 29 people. It is not yet recruiting, and it is unclear if bilateral stimulation will prove better than the standard unilateral approach.
