New prosthetic hook aims to give amputees a stronger, easier grip

NCT ID NCT07254247

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This completed study tested a new body-powered prosthetic hook designed to improve grasping for people with upper limb loss. Eight adults between 18 and 80 years old compared the new hook to standard hooks with different spring tensions. Researchers measured how fast participants could complete everyday tasks and how much effort they felt. The goal was to see if the new design offers better performance without the usual tradeoffs.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Novel Prosthetic Hook (device)

What this could lead to

If it works well, this hook could make daily tasks easier and less tiring for people who use a body-powered prosthetic arm.

What could go wrong

This was a very small study with only 8 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device may not be better than standard hooks in real-world use.
