Breakthrough trial aims to free kids from opioid pain during critical illness

NCT ID NCT06994442

Summary

This study is testing if adding common non-opioid pain medications (like IV Tylenol and Toradol) can better control pain and reduce the need for strong opioid drugs in children who are critically ill and on a breathing machine. Researchers will enroll about 644 children aged 2 months to 17 years to see if these safer, widely available drugs can provide more effective pain relief. The goal is to improve comfort and reduce the risks of opioid side effects like withdrawal and prolonged hospital stays.
