New drug combo cuts pain, slashes opioid need after surgery

NCT ID NCT07388251

Summary

This study tested a new way to manage pain after laparoscopic gallbladder removal surgery. Researchers compared a standard numbing medicine (bupivacaine) against the same medicine combined with another drug called dexmedetomidine, which was applied inside the abdomen at the end of the operation. The goal was to see if the combination provided better and longer-lasting pain relief while reducing the need for strong opioid painkillers after surgery.
