ERs test special team approach to stop older patients from declining after visits
NCT ID NCT04068311
Summary
This study tested a two-step program in an emergency department to better care for patients aged 65 and older. First, nurses quickly screened patients for risks like falls, confusion, and frailty. Those with concerning results received a more thorough assessment from a specialized team including geriatric doctors, physical therapists, and pharmacists during a short observation stay. The goal was to catch hidden problems early and connect patients with the right support to help them stay independent and improve their quality of life after leaving the ER.
