Wisdom tooth transplant showdown: which nerve strategy wins?
NCT ID NCT07291531
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares three ways to handle the dental pulp (tooth nerve) after transplanting a wisdom tooth to replace a damaged molar. 360 people aged 18-40 will be randomly assigned to receive either standard root canal treatment weeks after surgery, a special root tip procedure during surgery plus later root canal, or just trimming the root tip to try to keep the nerve alive. The goal is to see which approach leads to the best long-term tooth survival and health over 5 years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- root canal therapy or apical surgery
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could establish the best way to manage the tooth nerve after a wisdom tooth transplant, improving long-term tooth survival and function.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage trial with no results yet, and the best strategy may not be clearly better than others. Risks include infection, root resorption, or tooth loss.
