Early rehab after heart attack may save lives and cut hospital visits
NCT ID NCT03810599
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether starting a cardiac rehabilitation programme soon after leaving the hospital helps people with coronary artery disease live longer and avoid hospital stays for heart problems. The programme includes counseling, education, and exercise sessions three times a week for five weeks. Researchers will compare participants who receive this early rehab with a group who did not, tracking survival and heart-related hospitalizations over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
early cardiac rehabilitation programme
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that starting rehabilitation soon after hospital discharge improves survival and reduces heart-related hospital stays.
What could go wrong
This is an observational comparison, not a randomized trial, so results may be influenced by differences between groups. The programme is intensive and may not suit everyone.
