Summary
This large study is testing whether berberine, a compound from plants, can help prevent heart disease and type 2 diabetes in adults at high risk. Over 2,000 participants in China will take either berberine or a placebo pill for three years, alongside lifestyle advice. Researchers will track who develops diabetes or has a major heart event to see if berberine makes a difference.
