Heart attack patients monitored for hidden rhythm disorder
NCT ID NCT04528511
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tracks 774 adults who develop a new type of irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation) while hospitalized for a heart attack. Researchers will use continuous electronic monitoring to measure how much time patients spend in this abnormal rhythm. The goal is to see if the amount of irregular rhythm predicts future health problems like death or heart failure, and to help doctors decide who needs blood thinners.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to better ways to predict complications and guide blood-thinner use in heart attack patients who develop atrial fibrillation.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational registry, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. Results may only show associations, not cause and effect.
