New bendable tool could make kidney stone surgery safer
NCT ID NCT07342361
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares a new bendable tip-suction ureteral access sheath to a standard one during surgery for large kidney stones (staghorn stones). About 100 adults will be randomly assigned to one of the two sheaths. The goal is to see if the new sheath reduces complications and clears more stones, as checked by CT scans after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bendable tip-suction ureteral access sheath
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make surgery for large kidney stones safer and more effective, reducing complications and improving stone removal rates.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The new sheath might not work better than the standard one and could have unforeseen risks.
