First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether the drug belimumab (Benlysta) could safely prevent chronic graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in 10 adults who had a stem cell transplant for blood cancer. Chronic GvHD is a serious condition where donor immune cells attack the patient's body. The study focused on safety and early signs of effectiveness, finding that belimumab was generally well tolerated and may help reduce GvHD severity.
