Simple tests may gauge fitness in seniors
NCT ID NCT06062784
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 64 adults over 65 to see if easy bedside tests—like measuring muscle size with ultrasound—can predict cardiorespiratory fitness. Participants did a cycling test to measure their maximum oxygen uptake. The goal is to find simpler ways to assess fitness without expensive equipment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to simpler, cheaper ways to estimate fitness in older adults without expensive lab tests.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed observational study. The bedside tests may not be accurate enough to replace standard fitness testing in all older adults.
