Could a TB vaccine tame type 1 diabetes in kids?

NCT ID NCT05866536

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving children (ages 8 to under 18) with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes repeated doses of the BCG vaccine (normally used for tuberculosis) can improve blood sugar control and reduce insulin needs. The goal is to see if the vaccine can calm the immune attack on the pancreas, helping the body produce more insulin naturally. About 100 participants will be followed over time to measure changes in HbA1c and insulin use.
