Can a sticky shield stop heart device infections?

NCT ID NCT04591366

First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether an iodine-coated barrier dressing placed on the skin before surgery can reduce bacteria and prevent infections in people getting a new or upgraded heart device (like a pacemaker). About 390 adults at higher risk for infection are randomly assigned to get the dressing either before the incision or just before a final swab. The main goal is to see if the dressing lowers bacteria in the surgical pocket, which may lead to fewer infections.
