Swallow a balloon to spot silent cancer risk? new test aims to find hidden precursor

NCT ID NCT06687603

Summary

This study is testing a new, simpler way to find Barrett's esophagus, a condition that can lead to a deadly type of esophageal cancer. Researchers want to see if a swallowable balloon device (EsoCheck) and a lab test (EsoGuard) can effectively screen people over 50 who are at risk but don't have chronic heartburn symptoms. About 800 participants will use the balloon test and then have a standard endoscopy to check the results.
