New pill could help seniors ditch steroids for painful muscle disease

Summary
This study tests whether adding baricitinib (a JAK inhibitor pill) to standard steroid treatment helps people with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) achieve disease control without needing long-term steroids. About 140 adults aged 50+ with active PMR will receive baricitinib (2 mg or 4 mg) or a placebo for 6 months, alongside a steroid taper. The goal is to see if more patients can stop steroids and keep their disease quiet at 24 weeks.
