Summary
This pilot study is testing whether measuring a protein called thrombomodulin in the blood can help rule out giant cell arteritis (GCA) in people with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). GCA is a serious inflammation of the arteries that can cause blindness or stroke if not treated. The study will enroll 78 adults over 50 with PMR, take blood samples before treatment, and check thrombomodulin levels. If the test works, it could reduce the need for expensive or invasive tests like ultrasound or biopsy.
