Summary
This study will test a device that delivers gentle waist pulls during treadmill walking to improve balance in people who have had a stroke and in older adults with mild balance issues. Fifty participants will undergo nine training sessions over three weeks. The goal is to see if the training is safe, usable, and effective at reducing fall risk.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- perturbation-based training device (PACE-R)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward a practical training method to improve balance and reduce falls in stroke survivors and older adults.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage feasibility study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The training requires independent walking, limiting who can benefit.
