Hospital HIV teams aim to catch hidden infections across europe

NCT ID NCT06900829

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study is testing whether setting up special HIV teams in hospitals across ten European countries can increase HIV testing rates. The teams will remind doctors to test patients with certain conditions, reduce stigma, and improve education. Over 5,000 patients will be involved, and researchers will compare testing rates before and after the teams are introduced.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that dedicated HIV teams in hospitals help find undiagnosed HIV earlier, leading to better health outcomes and reduced spread.

What could go wrong

This is an implementation study, not a drug trial, so it won't directly cure or treat HIV. Results may vary across countries and hospitals, and success depends on real-world factors like staff buy-in.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

AIDS HIV infectious disease Social Stigma

As listed by the trial registrant

The condition terms exactly as the trial's registrant entered them.
