First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This Phase 2 trial tests a combination of two oral drugs, acalabrutinib and venetoclax, in 20 adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) that has come back or not responded to treatment. The goal is to see if the combo can reduce cancer cells to undetectable levels in the blood. Participants will take both pills by mouth and undergo regular blood tests, scans, and bone marrow exams to monitor response.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
acalabrutinib and venetoclax
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a more effective, chemotherapy-free option for people with CLL or SLL that has returned or not responded to prior treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase (Phase 2) trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Side effects from the drug combination are possible, and it is not a cure.
