Smartwatches and cameras could help track independence in seniors
NCT ID NCT07585864
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether smartwatches, cameras, and eye-tracking devices can accurately measure how well older women perform daily tasks like cooking and cleaning. Twenty women aged 75 and older will be observed in a kitchen setting, and the sensor data will be compared to ratings from occupational therapists. The goal is to see if technology can help assess independence and detect early cognitive decline.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to better tools for assessing independence in older adults, helping doctors spot early declines.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 20 participants. The technology may not work as well in real-world settings or for different groups.
