Simple breath test could revolutionize asthma checkups
NCT ID NCT06425562
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a breathing test called impulse oscillometry (IOS) can help doctors monitor asthma better than standard tests. Fifty adults with asthma will take IOS and other lung function tests, plus fill out questionnaires, at the start and again 3-6 months after a change in their asthma medication. The goal is to see if IOS catches changes in asthma control that standard tests might miss.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that impulse oscillometry is a more sensitive way to monitor asthma control, potentially leading to better treatment adjustments.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not prove that IOS is better than existing tests, and results may not apply to all asthma patients.
