New asthma inhaler version tested in kids: same drug, different delivery

NCT ID NCT07433569

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 16, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests two versions of the asthma inhaler Symbicort (budesonide/formoterol) in children aged 4 to 12 with asthma. The goal is to see how much of the drug gets into the blood with each version and whether they are safe. Fifteen children will take single doses of both the new Aerosphere and the standard pMDI inhaler. The results will help doctors understand if the new version works similarly in kids.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
budesonide and formoterol (combination inhaler)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a new inhaler version delivers the same asthma control with similar drug levels in children, offering an alternative treatment option.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1) study with only 15 children, so results may not apply broadly. It focuses on drug levels in the blood, not on how well asthma symptoms are controlled.
