Aspirin after preeclampsia: could a simple pill protect Women's hearts?

NCT ID NCT06168461

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

Women who had preeclampsia are four times more likely to develop heart disease later in life, possibly due to lasting blood vessel damage. This early-phase trial tests whether taking low-dose aspirin (162 mg daily) can improve blood vessel function in 40 women who had preeclampsia within the past five years. Researchers will measure how well blood vessels respond to certain signals, comparing aspirin to a placebo.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Aspirin

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost treatment to lower heart disease risk in women who had preeclampsia.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial (40 people) testing short-term effects on blood vessel function, not long-term heart health. Aspirin may not provide lasting benefit.
