Tiny trial tests new lead for implanted defibrillator

NCT ID NCT06592001

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early study tests a new type of lead (a wire) for an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in 19 people who need one. The lead is placed under the breastbone to deliver a shock if the heart beats dangerously fast. The goal is to see if it is safe and works well enough to plan a larger study.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

AtaCor EV-ICD Atala™ lead (implanted device)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a safer, more effective way to deliver life-saving shocks from an implantable defibrillator to prevent sudden cardiac death.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 19 people and no control group. The device may not work as expected or could cause complications like infection or lead failure.
