Can a whiff of calm ease surgery jitters? study tests Patient-Picked scents
NCT ID NCT07237061
Summary
This study tested whether letting patients choose a calming scent (aromatherapy) could reduce anxiety before they went in for eye surgery like cataract removal. It involved 64 patients who were randomly given either their chosen scent or a placebo scent for at least 30 minutes before their procedure. Researchers measured changes in the patients' self-reported anxiety levels to see if the personalized aromatherapy made a difference compared to the placebo.
