Can better support for guard suicide officers save lives?
NCT ID NCT06547008
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how to help Suicide Intervention Officers (SIOs) in the Connecticut Army National Guard do their job. SIOs are trained to spot soldiers in crisis and connect them with help, but they often lack support. The study will test a package of support options and see if it leads to more soldiers getting help and fewer suicide attempts.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a practical model for supporting Suicide Intervention Officers and potentially reduce suicide risk in military units.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (57 participants) focused on implementation, not direct outcomes. Results may not apply to other settings or prove that suicide rates actually drop.
