Arm and leg workout combo may ease daily struggles for COPD patients
NCT ID NCT05708443
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether combining arm and leg endurance training is better than leg training alone for improving daily activities in people with COPD. 36 participants with moderate-to-severe COPD will undergo 14 supervised sessions. The main goal is to see if the combined training reduces the time needed to complete a daily task test (GLITTRE test).
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
exercise training (combined upper and lower extremity endurance training vs lower extremity training alone)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that adding arm exercises to standard leg training helps people with COPD do daily activities more easily.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 36 participants, so results may not apply to all COPD patients. The benefit of adding arm training may be small or not significant.
