First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study tested whether special mouth rinses containing the amino acids arginine or glutamine can reduce the severity of painful mouth sores caused by radiation therapy in head and neck cancer patients. 69 adults were randomly assigned to swish and swallow one of three rinses three times daily during their radiation treatment. The researchers measured inflammation, pain, and quality of life to see if these rinses offer relief compared to a placebo.
