Can a gout drug and a blood thinner stop second strokes?

NCT ID NCT06396858

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding two common medicines—colchicine (an anti-inflammatory) and low-dose rivaroxaban (a blood thinner)—to standard care can prevent future heart attacks, strokes, or death in people who recently had a stroke. About 4,500 adults who had a stroke within the last 14 days and do not need full-dose blood thinners will take these drugs or placebos for several months. The goal is to see if this combination safely reduces major cardiovascular events.
