AR goggles join the fight against PTSD in veterans
NCT ID NCT06740487
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding augmented reality (AR) to standard exposure therapy helps U.S. military personnel with PTSD more than therapy alone. Forty veterans or active-duty members will be split into two groups: one gets traditional therapy plus AR, the other gets therapy only. Researchers will compare PTSD symptoms, social anxiety, and treatment satisfaction to see if AR makes a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
augmented reality exposure therapy (ARET) plus traditional exposure therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a more effective way to treat PTSD using augmented reality, potentially reducing symptoms faster or more completely.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial with only 40 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The added benefit of AR over standard therapy is unproven, and some participants may not tolerate the technology.
