NCT ID NCT07674251

First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two types of Pilates—one done in water and one on a mat—to see which better improves breathing, mobility, and quality of life in older women with a curved upper spine (kyphosis). Forty women aged 55 to 65 with mild to moderate kyphosis will follow a 12-week program. Researchers will measure lung function, walking ability, and posture before, during, and after the program.

Aquatic Pilates and Mat Pilates exercise programs

What this could lead to

If effective, water-based Pilates could offer a safe, accessible way to improve breathing and physical function in older adults with kyphosis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all older adults. The benefits may be modest and not last long-term.
