First seen Apr 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a blood thinner (apixaban) to a standard heart drug (carvedilol) can prevent serious complications like bleeding, fluid buildup, and confusion in people with liver scarring (cirrhosis). About 220 adults with cirrhosis and high blood pressure in the liver will be randomly assigned to get either the combination or a placebo plus carvedilol. The goal is to see if the combination reduces hospitalizations and deaths over one year.
