New hope for tough prostate cancer: drug cocktail trial launches

NCT ID NCT06059118

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This Phase 2 trial tests a sequence of three drugs—DFMO, high-dose testosterone, and enzalutamide—in 50 men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer that has progressed on standard therapy. The goal is to see if this combination can lower PSA levels and delay cancer growth. Participants must be asymptomatic and have castrate testosterone levels.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

DFMO (eflornithine), testosterone cypionate, and enzalutamide

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new treatment option for men with advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to standard hormone therapy.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination therapy may cause significant side effects or fail to improve outcomes.
