Could a mushroom boost liver recovery after cancer treatment?

NCT ID NCT07178093

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a mushroom extract called Antrodia cinnamomea can help liver cancer patients recover liver function and improve quality of life after a procedure called transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Sixty adults with liver cancer will take either the supplement or a placebo for 11 days around the procedure. Researchers will measure liver enzyme levels and quality of life over 28 days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Antrodia cinnamomea (a mushroom extract)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that Antrodia cinnamomea helps liver cancer patients recover liver function faster and feel better after a standard procedure called TACE.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The supplement is not a treatment for cancer itself, and its benefits are uncertain.
