Blood thinner duration after leg artery procedure put to the test
NCT ID NCT07076082
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study compares taking two blood thinners (clopidogrel and aspirin) for 1 month versus 6 months after a leg artery procedure. The goal is to see if the longer treatment keeps the treated artery open longer and prevents serious events like heart attack or stroke without causing too much bleeding. About 350 adults with peripheral artery disease will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Clopidogrel and aspirin
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors know the best length of time to give blood thinners after leg artery procedures, reducing the chance of heart attack, stroke, or needing another procedure.
- What could go wrong
- This is a pilot registry study focused on feasibility, not a large definitive trial. The results may not apply to all patients, and longer blood thinner use can increase bleeding risk.
