Can an ankle test diagnose a hearing disorder?
NCT ID NCT07384091
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study aims to see if a simple vibration test at the ankle can identify patients with superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS), a condition where a thin bone in the ear causes hearing of internal body sounds or pulsatile tinnitus. Researchers will test 30 adults with these symptoms using a special device called the B250. The goal is to find a quick, non-invasive way to diagnose SCDS without more complex tests.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a simple, non-invasive diagnostic test for superior canal dehiscence syndrome, reducing the need for more complex procedures.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage diagnostic study with only 30 participants. The test may not be accurate enough to replace current diagnostic methods, and results may not apply to broader populations.
